Mobile Dental Services Come to Virginia

The Virginia Head Start Association is pleased to announce a new service to bring dental services to Head Start children. The Southeastern Mobile Dental Services (SMDS(, based in Brentwood, Tennessee, but licensed to conduct business in Virginia, will begin delivering on-site dental services in parts of the commonwealth during school year 2007-2008.

Bryan Wilson, CEO, reports that seven programs in the Southwest Region, two in Northwest, and one each in Northeast and Southeast have signed contracts for provision of dentistry services this fall.

In this arrangement, SMDS brings a fully-equipped dental van to Head Start sites. They provide routine dental services necessary to meet the children’s needs including the services of dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and other qualified personnel. SMDS bills Doral Dental of VA for services provided according to an established fee schedule.

We are delighted to bring this service to programs in Virginia who have long struggled to find adequate dental services for their children.
